Sol de Janeiro, the Brazilian beauty brand, has opened a charitable foundation that will work to protect natural resources and empower women.
The Sol de Janeiro Foundation aims to protect the planet’s “most precious ecosystems” and has already signed US$5.77m in multi-year grants to partners restoring forests, protecting clean water and advancing women’s leadership in climate action.
The L’Occitane-owned beauty giant said these grants will create lasting benefits for communities and the environment.
“From the start, we knew we wanted to give back to two core stakeholders of our brand – young women and nature,” Angelea Peterson, Head of the Sol de Janeiro Foundation, told Cosmetics Business.
“Both face urgent challenges – nature is disappearing, while millions of girls around the world face barriers to opportunity.
“The foundation is our way of driving meaningful impact for both the planet and the people who care for it.”
The idea for the foundation was born from the brand’s community and its ethos, having collaborated with suppliers since its inception ten years ago to positively impact natural resources.
“When Sol de Janeiro began, it was a young company focused on building a bold brand that celebrated Brazil’s spirit,” said Peterson.
“As our community grew, so did our ability and responsibility to give back.
“A few groundbreaking years later, it felt like the pivotal moment to turn gratitude into action.
