Sol de Janeiro, the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream maker, has named its new GM for the company’s UK and Ireland operations.

Celine Basanisi Gilg has joined Sol de Janeiro as GM UKI of the L’Occitane-owned body care brand, having most recently served as a self-employed Managing Director at CBG Consulting and Advisory.

She also has an extensive beauty career, having worked for five years as Managing Director for Spanish brand owner Puig’s UK and Ireland branch.

Her career history also included an 11-year tenure at the Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) in various roles such as VP and GM of Tom Ford Beauty, By Kilian, Frederic Malle and Le Labo.

“Such a privilege to join the one brand [Sol de Janeiro] which has – arguably and in my opinion – shaken things up in the beauty industry like no other,” Basanisi Gilg wrote in a LinkedIn post sharing the news.

“The UK team has done an incredible job here in the past three years – there was no script for this success.”

“I cannot wait to lead the next chapter, so wish me luck on my new beauty adventure.”

Basanisi Gilg started her career as a Group Product Manager at French beauty giant L'Oréal in 1997.

She moved on to become Marketing Director at LVMH-owned beauty and fragrance business Guerlain in 2004.

In the LinkedIn post, Basanisi Gilg also thanked Sol de Janeiro’s Regional President, Olivier Berton, for her appointment.

She continued: “Thank you to the Sol de Janeiro teams in London, Paris and NY [New York] for my accelerated onboarding – nothing at Sol de Janeiro is slow and I am ready.”

Basanisi Gilg’s appointment follows Sol de Janeiro doubling down on its “next era of brand growth” after naming Jordan Saxemard its Global Chief Marketing & Digital Officer in October

Saxemard, who joins from sound system company Sonos, is leading the body care business’s global brand and product marketing, communications, digital and consumer engagement strategy.

He reports to Heela Yang, co-founder and CEO of Sol de Janeiro, as the Brazilian brand works to drive customer engagement and growth globally.
