A move by China this summer to drop the requirement for the compulsory testing of some types of cosmetics has been applauded by animal rights activists in Beijing.

“China is becoming more caring for animals...it shows that officials also have dogs and cats,” said Wang Ping from the Small Animals Protection Association, an increasingly active, government-sanctioned national movement for animal rights.
