Van Cleef plants a new rose by adding to Collection Extraordinaire fragrance line

Jewellery firm Van Cleef & Arpels has announced Rose Velours, a new addition to its Collection Extraordinaire line of fragrances. Created by perfumer Antoine Maisondieu of F&F firm Givaudan, it has head notes of Italian bergamot and violet leaf; heart notes of rose absolute, iris absolute (said to be the most expensive ingredient in perfumery) and honey, and a base of Ambroxan, cedar and benzoin.

The fragrance is due for launch in Europe in October and the company describes it as velvety, opulent and voluptuous. Pricing has not yet been set but other fragrances in the collection retail for around u150 for a 75ml bottle from luxury retailers such as Harrods and Neiman Marcus. All the fragrances come in the same design of a heavy rectangular glass bottle with black cap sealed with string and a tag, while the outer coffret-style packaging has a green base with an embossed white lid with green details. All bottles are numbered and punch-marked on the base.

Van Cleef & Arpels launched the Collection Extraordinaire in 2009 with six fragrances by different perfumers – Gardénia Pétale by Nathalie Feisthaeur; Muguet Blanc by Antoine Maisondieu; Orchidée Vanille by Randa Hammami; Bois d’Iris by Emilie Coppermann, Cologne Noire by Marc Buxton; and Lys Carmin by Nathalie Ceto. It followed these with Precious Oud by Amandine Marie in 2011.
