Aedes de Venustas makes candle debut

Published: 14-Nov-2013

Luxury US fragrance brand Aedes de Venustas has launched a debut collection of four candles inspired by enchantment and mystery.

The candles were “imagined” by brand co-founder Karl Bradl and then designed by perfumers Olivia Giacobetti, Patricia Choux and Bertrand Duchaufour. Uniquely the candles are packaged in dark purple glass embossed with the Aedes de Venustas insignia, but without any other distinction or names, lending itself further to the underlying sense of mystery.

The first candle, Cellarius, was designed by Giacobetti and was inspired by patina covered bronze, gilded leather and antique star maps. Meanwhile the second candle Phoenicis, designed by Duchaufour, conjures up scents of smoldering pine needles and incense ashes; the third also by Duchaufour, called Indica, is described as an homage to Jean-Baptiste Lamarck who discovered the intoxication of Hindu Kush grass in 1785. Finally, the fourth candle, Mel Mellis, designed by Choux, combines scents of golden honeycomb with bitter rosemary for a smoky sweet scent.

The candles, priced at £58 for 190g, are designed to burn for 50-60 hours. Two more candles are slated to launch in 2014.
