Jaclyn Hill Cosmetics is issuing a full refund to all customers who purchased its So Rich Lipsticks, following reports of contaminated products.
Earlier this month, shoppers hit out at the namesake brand of the hit beauty vlogger over claims her lipsticks were ‘hairy’ and ‘mouldy’.
Initially, the brand said in an official statement that it only a small number of customers had received sub-standard products.
It said: “The issues reported over the last several days are related to irregularities in the manufacturing process which are being fixed and do not impact the ingredients, formula, or safety of our products.
“Additionally, we want to provide assurances to customers who may have heard that our products are old, or contain mould – this is false.”
Now, after a flurry of complaints, the quality has come under such scrutiny that an online petition has been launched for a mass recall.
@Jaclynhill @jaclyncosmetics I am a huge supporter! Seriously love you. I was soooo excited to buy your lipsticks. Today when I went to put on "Decaf" ..I noticed there was a hard ball inside of it. What is it? Can I get a replacement? pic.twitter.com/D9acDVtDgH— Krystal Duarte (@mizzgrizzlybee) June 7, 2019
Hill responded to complaints with a 14 minute video citing quality control forms, including a Cosmetics Product Safety Report.
Commenting on her products she that her products “are not mouldy, they are not hazardous, they are not contaminated and they are not unsafe for you in any way, shape or form.”
Hill also claimed that all of the ingredients in her lipsticks were FDA approved.
The brand took to social media to make the announcement for a refund.
It read: “Jaclyn Cosmetics takes consumer feedback very seriously. We’ve reviewed the quality issues related to our So Rich Lipsticks and believe our production did not meet our brand standards. We’ll be issuing a full refund (including shipping charges to everyone who purchased the product.”
Hill is yet to respond publicly to the decision of the brand.
