Provital introduces Kromboost, a protein bioactive designed to preserve the functional life of the hair fibre by strengthening hair, hydrating and protecting dyed colour under thermal and chemical stress. Upcycled from barley malt rootlets, a craft beer brewing byproduct sourced locally, Kromboost is obtained through an enzymatic hydrolysis process that yields peptides and polyphenols, enhanced with serine, a hygroscopic amino acid naturally found in keratin.
The ingredient acts on two levels: peptides form a protective film on the cuticle that helps reduce pigment loss and shield the fibre from thermal stress, while also diffusing into the cortex to reinforce keratin and support moisture retention. Ex vivo testing across straight, wavy and coily hair following repeated flat-iron styling showed breakage reduced by up to 152%, keratin thermal stability improved by up to 15%, and moisture retention increased by up to 19% versus placebo. Dyed color retention improved by 166% in a single 3-minute rinse-off application versus placebo. Used at 2%, Kromboost is Halal, Cosmos approved, vegan and 100% natural origin, suitable for leave-on and rinse-off formulations.
