Two L’Oréal executives have teamed up to promote female-led initiatives to combat climate change.
Founded by VP of Operations Barbara Lavernos and Group Director CSR & Sustainability Alexandra Palt, Women4Climate aims to promote green female-run projects.
In partnership with urban network group C40 Cities and L’Oréal, Women4Climate aims to create 50 mentoring projects by the end of the year.
But it doesn’t stop there: the eco-support group is aiming to launch 150 projects by 2018 and 200 by the close of 2019.
Paris was chosen to launch the mentoring programme – with Mayor Anne Hidalgo currently at the helm of C40 Cities – with Mexico City and Cape Town next to establish projects.
Palt said: "Partnering the C40 mayors to support the next generation of women leaders is crucial to achieving our goals of promoting gender equality and protecting the climate.”
To support the initiative L’Oréal is funding research into the impact of climate change on women and encouraging its own female employee to launch green business projects.
“Women play a massive role in fighting climate change. We have a responsibility to back them all the way,” added Palt.
