Lush urges businesses to divest from big tech after leaving social media

UK ethical beauty brand Lush is moving away from using big tech companies in its business operations after leaving social media, and wants other companies to do the same

Lush is urging businesses to follow its lead and start divesting from so-called big tech.

The ethical UK beauty brand and retailer famously departed social media, citing issues around online harms. 

But Lush is also moving away from using big tech companies throughout its business, in a push back against what it believes is the stranglehold of the five biggest tech companies – Google (Alphabet), Amazon, Apple, Meta, and Microsoft.

“Divestment from big tech really is about understanding how intertwined your business is with all these different companies and big tech giants that we are all reliant on,” Jack Constantine, Chief Digital Officer at Lush, told Cosmetics Business at its Safer Socials Summit.
