The Oscar-winning actress will feature in a series of social-first films for the brand, the first of which promotes La Mer’s new Moisturizing Soft Cream

Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh and luxury skin care brand La Mer are joining forces on a social campaign celebrating strength and softness.

Yeoh will feature in a series of social-first films directed by Yvan Fabing, providing an intimate view into Yeoh’s personal journey and rituals.

The first film focuses on experience and memories, and sees the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star discovering the Estée Lauder Companies-owned brand’s new Moisturizing Soft Cream.

“The campaign with Michelle Yeoh is a natural fit, as La Mer’s skin philosophy harnesses sea born health and energy to achieve timeless beauty,” said Sandra Main, La Mer’s Global Brand President.

“Amidst a groundbreaking year, Michelle Yeoh has also defied conventional notions of time and age, with her trailblazing career and inspirational story.”

This year, Yeoh scooped several best lead actress awards, including an Academy Award, BAFTA Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award, for her portrayal of Evelyn Wang in Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s Everything Everywhere All at Once.

The role sees Yeoh play a middle-aged laundromat owner swept up into a universe-spanning adventure in which she alone can save existence.

Commenting on the La Mer collaboration, Yeoh said: “The sea is very special to me. It’s a place where I find calm and inspiration and it brings warm memories of my time spent there with family.

“That same connection is what drew me to La Mer, a brand that understands the renewing power of the sea.

“La Mer products not only make my skin glow and feel healthy, but they also bring the same sense of calm and rejuvenation I feel when I’m by the ocean.”

Beauty’s comeback queens

Yeoh’s story is one of several 2023 awards season triumphs from talents who’ve been marginalised or struggled to find a foothold in Hollywood in recent years.

Ke Huy Quan, Yeoh’s onscreen husband in Everything Everywhere All at Once, and The Whale’s Brendan Fraser – also 2023 Academy Award winners – both returned to acting following hiatuses.

Yeoh herself has been on an upward trajectory since 2018, when she starred as Eleanor Young in mega-hit Crazy Rich Asians.

And the beauty world has been swift to spot the potential of a good comeback story.

Jennifer Coolidge, best-known for her roles in 2000s cult classics American Pie and Legally Blonde, has enjoyed a renaissance in the hit series White Lotus, for which she scooped a Golden Globe and Emmy.

Coolidge's 2023 ascendancy also saw her onboarded as the face of e.l.f. Cosmetics' Super Bowl ad earlier this year.
