A Halloween symbol when carved into jack-o-lanterns, and an autumn favourite in spiced latte form, pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo) has stepped beyond its traditional associations to claim a place in the beauty cabinet.

Fushi’s new Organic Pumpkin Nourish Oil has been developed to nourish skin and hair as the weather gets cooler, with the omega-rich pumpkin seed oil as the hero ingredient.

Hair care brand Rhute’s Density Complex Pre-Wash Scalp Oil also contains pumpkin seed oil, claiming that it is scientifically-backed to increase hair count, by inhibiting 5a-Reductase, the enzyme that drives DHT hair shedding.

Pumpkin is a versatile crop, and the foundation of a variety of cosmetic ingredients using both the seeds and fruit.
