L’Oréal CEO Nicolas Hieronimus on GLP-1’s ‘impact’ on skin care sales

Nicolas Hieronimus, CEO of French beauty giant L’Oréal, says the rise in GLP-1 weight loss drugs is ‘a very important phenomenon’ for the cosmetics industry, affecting skin care consumption, following the company’s Q3 2026 results

L’Oréal CEO Nicolas Hieronimus said GLP-1 weight loss drugs are having an “impact” on beauty, influencing skin care demand.

The French beauty giant’s head shared his thoughts on the growing importance of GLP-1 on skin care consumption during a call with investors on 22 October following L’Oréal’s Q3 2026 results.

“We also see, which is a very important phenomenon for us, the rise of the use of GLP-1 is having an impact on beauty consumption and skin care consumption, in particular,” said Hieronimus.

“So, we have products in SkinCeuticals, but also in Kiehl’s, that have been designed to work alongside and complement GLP-1, and its side effects on skin sagging or other things like that.”

Earlier this year, Cosmetics Business reported on the rise in beauty innovations claiming to target skin volume loss caused by GLP-1 medications.

GLP-1 use has boomed in popularity in recent years thanks to medications Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro.

According to the Gallup National Health and Well-Being Index, 11% of US adults currently use GLP-1 medications for weight loss, and 15% have used them at some point in their lives.

In the UK, an estimated 1.6 million adults in England, Wales, and Scotland used GLP-1 medications for weight loss between early 2024 and early 2025, according to research from UCL /BMC Medicine.

L’Oréal has reported “exceptional” results for Q3 2026, with sales soaring 7.2% to €11.6bn in the three months to 30 September.

The giant’s dermatological beauty division was a big driver, growing 11.6%, with its three "billionaire" brands – La Roche-Posay, CeraVe and SkinCeuticals all experiencing double-digit growth.
