In 2023, The Soapery tested the purity of grapeseed oil from 6 big retailers and the results showed that none of them were pure. They then tested 5 samples from big retailers in 2025 to see if there had been any improvement. But again, none of them were pure.
The most recent tests found 3 of the ‘grapeseed oil’ samples were diluted with sunflower oil. The remaining 2 samples contained zero grapeseed oil! They were just sunflower oil and soybean oil labelled as grapeseed oil.
It’s fraud and it’s dangerous.
Do you use grapeseed oil in your cosmetic products? The chance the grapeseed oil you are using is pure is very low. This is not just affecting you, it's affecting the quality of your products and your reputation.
Look at it this way, if you’re listing ‘grapeseed oil’ as an ingredient, can you be confident that’s actually what’s in the product? How can you be sure your product has natural benefits from the grapeseed oil if it's been diluted with cheap oils?
“In 2023 we tested 6 samples of grapeseed oil and they all failed. We repeated the tests nearly 3 years later, and nothing’s changed. We can’t carry on like this, I’d like to call on the industry to clean up their supply chains and to make sure their grapeseed oil is pure.” - Andy, The Soapery Founder
So ask yourself, is your grapeseed oil actually grapeseed oil? Is your supplier trustworthy? Have they tested the purity of the grapeseed oil they are selling?
Don’t assume your grapeseed oil is exempt. All of the samples we tested were adulterated. Yours could be too.
