The shocking truth behind the purity of almond oil

Published: 26-Mar-2025

The Soapery tested almond oil from 6 big retailers, turns out they were all sunflower oil. Is your almond oil what you think it is?

Whether you sell sweet almond oil to retailers or you use it in cosmetics, have you ever thought it might not actually be what it says on the label?

The Soapery sent 6 samples of sweet almond oil from different online retailers for purity testing. Not a single one of the samples contained any almond oil. They all came back as mostly sunflower oil.

Yet, the label says ‘almond oil’.

“The fact that nobody seems to be selling genuine almond oil was definitely the biggest surprise to me. It seems it is accepted in the industry to sell sunflower oil as almond oil. It’s definitely time to change.” - Andy Knowles, Director of The Soapery

So ask yourself, is your sweet almond oil pure? Is your almond oil fully traceable?

Because it’s not just you who is affected, it’s your products too. The products you spend so much time perfecting.

Think about it, if you’re putting ‘almond oil’ as an ingredient on your labels, is that accurate? If you’re advertising the amazing benefits of almond oil, how can those benefits be true if it's actually sunflower oil?

Sweet almond oil can be adulterated in different ways. It could be a blend of cheap oils with absolutely no almond oil, or it could contain a tiny percentage of almond oil in sunflower oil. The only consistency is that they all label it as just ‘almond oil’.

Whether this is shocking to you or you’re already aware of this, it is your responsibility to know what you are selling. The Soapery goes to great lengths to ensure their almond oil is pure. Does your supplier do that for you?

With 100% of the samples failing the purity tests, there is a very high chance your sweet almond oil is adulterated. So do you really know what you're paying for?

Don’t think it’s just sweet almond oil that is being adulterated, it is every oil.

So don’t relax, this affects you directly.
