UK facial skin care market set to break £1bn mark
Industry prediction for 2013
The UK facial skin care market is forecasted to break the £1bn mark in 2013, according to a new report jointly published by Mintel and L’Oréal today.
The report, called ‘Here Comes the Science’, reveals that British consumers continue to value the importance of skin care products as part of their routines, with the category generating £956m in 2011. The report also showed that currently 41% of women use products that protect their skin from environmental factors such as the sun and pollution, while 52% believe the products they use do live up to their claims.
Vivienne Rudd, head of beauty and personal care insight at Mintel, said: “The fact that the UK skin care market is forecast to break the billion pound barrier next year highlights the importance that British consumers place on their skin care routine. Key factors in its growth are the continued scientific and marketing innovation in the industry, the discovery of new active ingredients and molecules that go into today’s new generation skin care products together with a more knowledgeable and informed consumer who now uses a wider range of skin care products and tools tailored to their skin, lifestyle and age, according to the report.”
