Spot stickers have become a surprising standout skin care star, with indie brands like Hero Cosmetics, PeaceOut and Starface pushing their popularity, especially among a Gen Z audience.

It is hard not to acknowledge the uptake in spot patches, with Gen Z and Gen Alpha alike proudly wearing the ‘skin saviours’ as a badge of honour in school and public.

The category is bringing in major money for skin care brands too, with the pimple patch market projected to reach a valuation of US$1.5bn by 2032, growing at a CAGR of 6.8% from 2024 to 2032, according to data from Data Intelo.

Recognised much earlier by the Asian skin care market, spot patches have long been popular among skin care fanatics in South Korea, with the Asian market accounting for 39.8% of pimple patch sales in 2021, according to analyst Grand View Research.

The small skin care-stuffed patches sit on top of spots and work to reduce inflammation and appearance, developing from an add-on experience to a core skin care category, with dermatological leaders now taking notice.

Giants such as CeraVe, Bioré and La Roche-Posay have launched their own versions into the mix, but with a dermatological difference.

As well as hitting a trending skin care topic, the spot patch product category serves a function many consumers are searching for.

Jasmine Griffin, beauty marketing expert and founder of The Beauty of Marketing, explains: “Spot patches are a no-brainer money maker, they are the perfect balance of function and fashion.

“They are a solution to a problem, while also tapping into the beauty-meets-lifestyle trend.

“What makes them even stronger is their broad appeal across all age groups – whether you are a teenager heading to school tomorrow or have an important meeting in the morning, they cater to everybody.
