According to research from topcashback.com, 16% of UK consumers are expected to shop online on Christmas Day this year.
Of these shoppers, 43% will be doing so in secret, away from their family and friends. The top browsing time is expected to be 10pm with £850,000 expected to spent across the day overall.
First thing in the morning is also expected to be a popular shopping hour, with 30% of consumers planning to shop at this time. Another 22% of consumers will head online as soon as their dinner has finished.
Boxing Day is also expected to be a huge shopping day, with 62% of consumers expected to shop online on the day. Retailers are expected to see an increased amount of sales generated online this year, following a trend set on this year’s Black Friday event.
End of the year sales could help retailers make-up for a lacklustre year on the high street, with 58% of consumers admitting to putting off purchases until the sales start. 37% of consumers said toiletries were among the products they plan to buy in the sales, stocking up while prices are low.
However, more than a quarter of people will not be shopping during the Christmas Day and Boxing Day sales. 28% of Britons said they had spent all of their spare cash in the run up to the holiday period so would not be spending in the post-Christmas sales.
