Aveda is making its first foray into acne treatment with Outer Peace, with products and treatments to go into its salons, spas and retail in May. The company conducted a study on acne in March 2005 and found the 56% of teens, 18% of adult women and 10% of adult men suffer from acne, while 50% of women aged 18-34 experience occasional breakouts.
While many acne products and ranges tend to target specific acne related issues, Aveda says Outer Peace addresses all four contributing factors: excess sebum production; abnormal desquamation; proliferation of bacteria; and inflammation tissue reaction.
The line for home use comprises four products: Foaming Cleanser, Anti-Blemish Pads, Spot Relief and Anti-Blemish Lotion. There are also two treatment scrub products, though these contain no actual abrasives, but these are only available for salon use; Aveda believes it is important for these to be applied only when stress relieving high touch treatment is being performed as stress is a major component of the condition. Used for four weeks, Aveda says the product regime significantly reduces acne blemishes in 92% of users.
Key ingredients of Outer Peace include tamanu oil, which is sourced sustainably from the Vanuatu island in South East Asia. Tamanu has strong anti-irritant and antioxidant benefits. Salicylic acid sourced from wintergreen is incorporated as an exfoliant, saw palmetto as a natural antioxidant, Boswellia serrata to help the skin's overall natural function and Emblica officinalis as an anti-irritant. Organic essential oils of lemon, tea tree and rose geranium add a soothing aroma.
Retail products will be priced £14.50 to £19.
