BASF announces further plastics business sell-off
BASF, the worlds biggest chemicals company, is to bring sales from its plastic units to €4bn by adding styrene copolymers to its planned divestments. BASF’s styrene monomers line has been for sale since July 2007 and the company plans to focus its remaining styrenic plastics actives on its foams business for the construction and packing industries.

Styrene can be used in both cosmetics and packaging, and styrenic copolymers are highly resistant to chemicals and temperature.
Shares in BASF fell 17 euro cents to €39.88.
