The ‘I’m Every Woman’ singer’s fragrance debut follows a previous line of scented candles

US singer Chaka Khan is the latest celebrity to enter the beauty world with the launch of her first-ever fragrance.

Called Chaka by Chaka Khan, the scent is said to build upon the ‘I’m Every Woman’ hitmaker’s legacy of female empowerment and is described as a “bottled homage to longevity and creative spirit”.

The fragrance (from US$35.00) features notes of violet and ylang ylang, infused with bergamot and pink pepper.

Musk blossom, woodsy patchouli, vanilla, warm cinnamon and sandalwood also feature to add earthy layers.

The scent is also housed in a gold microphone-shaped bottle featuring Khan’s signature.

"This fragrance is more than just a scent – it's a journey of music, passion and soul,” said Khan, whose real name is Yvette Marie Stevens.

“Every note is lovingly made, inspired by the songs and memories we've shared.

"As you wear it, it's my wish to uplift your spirit, empowering you to shine, whether you're sharing a quiet time or out on the town.”

The fragrance will launch on US shopping channel HSN, where Khan will appear to share the inspiration behind the scent and stories from her life and career.

Khan rose to fame in the 1970s as the lead singer of funk band Rufus before breaking out as a solo star, winning multiple Grammy Awards with hits including  ‘I Feel For You’, ‘Ain’t Nobody’ and ‘Higher Love’ .

This is not the 70-year-old’s first foray into the beauty and wellness world, however.

In 2013, Khan released a line of scented candles called Khana Sutra, alongside a range of chocolates dubbed Chakalates.

Khan is also not the first music icon to enter the fragrance space later in her career.

Country star Dolly Parton worked with bespoke fragrance brand Scent Beauty to release her debut fragrance, Dolly - Scent from Above, in 2021, with notes including mandarin, peony blossoms, jasmine and vanilla.

Meanwhile, the Whitney Houston Estate, last year, revealed a fragrance inspired by the late singer, also developed with Scent Beauty and perfumer Firmenich.
