Tony Peters introduces a low shear pumping system that protects personal care ingredients in production
With the marketing of personal products being very much reliant upon promoting their soothing, cleansing, fragrant and gentle properties, manufacturers need to process the many natural and synthetic raw ingredients used with due diligence in order to produce the final product. It follows that the processing equipment employed must be capable of handling the material gently and efficiently to avoid degradation and loss.
Blackmer Mouvex C-Series eccentric disc pumps are designed to satisfy all the criteria for personal care product manufacturing as they are capable of handling solids of up to 3mm, provide superior shear-sensitive handling and minimise the agitation of thin fluids. Most significantly, they are seal-less pumps thereby eliminating leakage and costly loss of high value liquids. The absence of mechanical seals is an important aspect of the pump design, as often the ingredients being pumped can attack the seals and replacing them can be a time consuming and costly process. With the C-Series, downtime is reduced by self-compensating for mechanical wear, plus they have the capability to be flushed and cleaned-in-place without disassembly.
For multipurpose pumping applications, this pump type is capable of dry priming, line stripping and tank clearing. The pump can empty both the suction line and can compress air up to 3 bar in order to blow down the discharge line. This allows users to recover stagnant product, thus saving costs.
Unique to Blackmer Mouvex, the eccentric movement pump consists of a cylinder and a pumping element mounted on an eccentric shaft. As the eccentric shaft rotates, the pumping element creates chambers with the cylinder. This increases the size of the intake port and draws fluid into the pumping chamber. The fluid is transported to the discharge port where the pumping chamber’s size decreases. The action squeezes the fluid out into the discharge pipework. However, its action is far more sensitive, making it ideal for handling fragrance beads and other expensive additives that are popular with C&T manufacturers.
For duties where low flow control is required, Blackmer Mouvex has recently introduced the EHEDG approved Micro C Series. Offering flow rates from125l/h -800l/h, the four model range is ATEX certified and is able to maintain a constant flow rate at a given viscosity throughout its pressure range.
Developed for the dosing and transportation of both liquid and viscous products, the Micro C Series is consistently accurate due to the full contact and self-adjustment of the piston and cylinder. The pump’s high suction performance enables self-priming even under vacuum conditions.
“Blackmer Mouvex C pumps have established a significant presence within many sectors of the processing industries, where a gentle, low shear pumping action is required,” says David Hutton, Blackmer Pumps Manager at AxFlow UK Ltd. “The Micro-C Series is a welcome extension to the range and due to its small size, the Micro C can be easily integrated into many applications.”
