LVMH-backed L Catterton sells supplement brand Thorne to P&G in $3.8 billion deal

Thorne, founded in 1984 and which sells supplements such as magnesium and omega-3, originally received investment from L Catterton in 2023

L Catterton, the private equity firm created by LVMH, Groupe Arnault and Catterton, has sold wellness brand Thorne to Procter & Gamble (P&G) in a US$3.8bn cash deal.

The transaction, which is expected to close in the final quarter of 2026, follows L Catterton's initial investment in the US-founded supplement brand in 2023.

L Catterton claimed to have helped accelerate Thorne's next phase of growth by expanding the brand's reach through “enhanced marketing and commercial capabilities”, according to the business.

The funding was also said to support investments in science, research and development (R&D), as well as building technology and data infrastructure that enabled the company to serve consumers.

Thorne, founded in 1984, is a South Carolina-based company that sells supplements, such as magnesium, omega-3 and creatine, primarily in the US.

Marc Magliacano, a Managing Partner at L Catterton, said: "Our investment in Thorne reflects what L Catterton does best: identifying enduring shifts in consumer behaviour and partnering with category-leading brands to help them realise their full potential.”

Colin Watts, CEO of Thorne, added: "L Catterton has been an outstanding partner over the past several years.

“I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together and grateful for the role they played in helping prepare Thorne for this next chapter.”

UK conglomerate Unilever was allegedly exploring a bid for Thorne, with the intention of boosting its health and wellness portfolio in the US market.

The investment follows a boom in the beauty industry of brands investing in and creating new supplement innovations in 2026.

This includes L’Oréal-owned luxury dermocosmetics skin care brand Vichy, which launched its first-ever collagen supplement in February 2026.

Elsewhere, beauty technology brand Foreo entered the world of supplements with its FAQ Pure Beauty-Tech Elixir, designed to address the signs of early ageing.
