L’Oréal Paris has scooped actress Gillian Anderson as its new global ambassador.
The X-Files and Sex Education star will front campaigns for the L’Oréal flagship brand’s Age Perfect range, developed for women over 50.
The Chicago-born, and London and Michigan-raised Anderson is best known for playing Special Agent Dana Scully in sci-fi television series The X-Files.
Her role became synonymous with ‘the Scully effect’, encouraging a generation of women into medicine, science and law enforcement.
More recently, she graced screens in crime series The Fall and comedy-drama Sex Education, and depicted former prime minister Margaret Thatcher in The Crown.
The 56-year-old is also the founder of functional drinks brand G Spot, while her 2024 book Want: Sexual Fantasies by Anonymous hit number one on the Sunday Times bestseller list.
“We are honoured to welcome Gillian Anderson to the L’Oréal Paris family,” said L’Oréal Paris’ Global President, Delphine Viguier-Hovasse.
“Not only is she a true icon with a decades-long career that spans stage and screen, but she shares our mission at L’Oréal Paris to empower women to celebrate their beauty at every age.
“With her history of inspiring women, elevating their stories and fighting for their rights, she encourages all of us to defy conventional timelines and be unstoppable – no matter our age.”
L’Oréal Paris said that Anderson’s activism in women’s empowerment, sustainability and inclusivity resonates with its core values.
Anderson is an active supporter of organisations including The Feminist Majority Foundation, Planned Parenthood and Wellbeing of Women in the UK.
“Women are extraordinary – unique, complex, brilliant, beautiful inside and out, at every age,” said Anderson.
“Yet the conventional narrative surrounding women and ageing rarely, if ever, reflects that.”
She added: “L’Oréal Paris has championed women of all ages for decades, and I am thrilled to join them as they inspire women to break free from stereotypes and put themselves at the center of their own stories.”
Anderson joins a roster of celebrity talent in the L’Oréal Paris ambassador line-up, including Cara Delevingne, Elle Fanning, Simone Ashley, Viola Davis and Kendall Jenner.
