L’Oréal Groupe and manufacturer Cosmax have signed a memorandum of understanding [MOU] to collaborate to develop next-generation beauty innovations.

The agreement between the two businesses will combine the French beauty giant’s  science and consumer insights with the South Korean manufacturer’s K-beauty-inspired product design expertise.

The collaboration will focus on three key areas: global product development, innovative ingredients and sensory innovation.

The global product development pillar will see joint research and development for K-beauty-inspired products for global expansion, with research powered by L’Oréal’s consumer insights and beauty science.

The innovative ingredients pillar sees the exploration and development of cosmetic raw materials and active ingredients.

Finally, the sensory innovation pillar will focus on the creation of novel sensory signatures and product formats inspired by South Korean beauty trends and consumer preferences.

“Beauty serves as a vibrant bridge between our cultures and a strategic industry for both countries,” said Nicolas Hieronimus, CEO of L'Oréal

It was one of three business MOUs signed during South Korean President Lee Jae-Myung’s State Visit to France on 8 September, signed at a bilateral summit marking the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and France.

The summit aims to strengthen economic and cultural ties between the two nations, while also highlighting the impact of the beauty industry’s strategic role in global economics.

“As we celebrate 140 years of diplomatic relations between France and South Korea, I am proud to deepen our partnership with Cosmax,” continued Hieronimus.

“By working closely together and combining our strengths, we will join forces to shape the future of beauty and create exceptional new experiences for consumers worldwide.”
