Rahn neuro-balm promises better skin comfort

The skin’s comfort zone is regulated by the pain receptor TRPV1, which is expressed in the epidermis’ sensory neurons and keratinocytes. Elevated levels may lead to increased skin sensitivity; moreover, heat stress caused by IR-light can activate TRPV1, thereby inducing collagen degradation in a process known as thermal ageing.

Defensil-Soft, which will be launched by Rahn Group at in-cosmetics 2017, is described as a neuro-balm that blocks TRPV1, reducing skin discomfort and irritation within minutes while preventing IR-ageing. Based on the mushroom Albatrellus ovinus, also called the Northern truffle, the ingredient conforms to COSMOS and Ecocert.

An interesting benefit of Defensil-Soft is its function in improving the skin’s tolerance towards certain irritants in cosmetic formulations.
