Accepting the SCS presidential chain, Beerling thanked Salmon for his amazing work over the last year. “I hope I can continue in the same tradition,” she said. She also thanked Nichols for having done a sterling job as immediate past president.
Going forward Beerling said she wanted to expand the SCS distance learning course internationally and mentioned ongoing discussions regarding a possible bursary fund to help boost the UK’s involvement in international scientific events. “At the end of my year I would like to say I enjoyed every minute of it and will also have further enhanced the society’s international standing and reputation.”
