Amorepacific, the owner of K-beauty skin care brand Laneige, has invested in biotechnology company Junevity to create “next-generation” cosmetic products designed to rejuvenate skin.
Amorepacific Ventures, its corporate venture arm, made the strategic investment, with a separate licensing agreement for cosmetic field applications.
Through the collaboration, Junevity will utilise its RESET Platform to discover novel skin-ageing pathways for cosmetics, pairing its target-discovery engine with Amorepacific’s skin biology knowledge, cosmetic development and commercialisation.
“The next-generation of skin health innovations will be informed by deeper research-driven insights into the biology of skin ageing, particularly the role of gene networks and transcriptional regulation in longevity,” said Brian Byung-Fhy SUH, CTO of Amorepacific R&I Center.
“The cutting-edge work by the team at Junevity and their sophisticated RESET Platform will enable us to explore novel pathways underlying skin ageing and advance our research toward longevity solutions.
“Through this joint research, we also aim to explore hybrid technologies through collaboration across adjacent fields, opening new possibilities for long-term skin health.”
The companies will work together to discover pathways suitable for cosmetic applications intended to reset and rejuvenate skin gene networks toward a healthier state.
Amorepacific will lead the development and commercialisation of cosmetic products, while Junevity will continue to advance therapeutic applications of its platform.
John Hoekman, co-founder and CEO of Junevity, added: “We are excited to be working with Amorepacific, a leader in skin science, to explore the potential of our technology in skin care.
“This partnership demonstrates the breadth of our approach and the potential to open new doors for our platform, extend its reach into new markets and create additional avenues for long-term value.
“It is this same innovative approach that continues to drive our therapeutic pipeline, including our lead siRNA candidate for obesity that is headed into human clinical trials.”
