The British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association (BAMA) has announced aerosol filling figures remained robust in the UK in 2007. According to the industry trade body, aerosol filling grew 2.7% over the period, to 1259.1 million cans, an increase of 33.5 million cans on the previous year.

Personal care products remained the largest category within the aerosols sector, with deodorants, body sprays and anti-perspirants recording a 5.5% increase to 603.2 million units filled.

“This rise in overall fillings is a notable achievement for the UK aerosol industry as some companies have moved their filling operations overseas and, of course, 2007 saw the start of consumers spending less through high street retailers,” commented Sue Rogers, BAMA director. “Our industry is robust and the UK’s reputation for excellence is ensuring that the industry goes from strength to strength – a pleasing situation as 2008 marks the 80th birthday of the UK aerosol patent.”

In other news, BAMA has announced the appointment of Nigel Jackson as chairman. Jackson was previously a member of BAMA’s executive committee.

“Having worked in the sector for 35 years both with a global aerosol marketer/manufacturer and a global supplier, I hope that I will be able to offer advice to the executive committee, in my role as chairman, that will benefit all sides of the supply chain,” said Jackson.
