BASF has announced it has expanded its production capacity for the sustainable chelating agent Trilon M to 120,000 tonnes, following the completion of an expansion programme at the BASF site in Ludwigshafen, Germany.

The expansion, which was completed ahead of schedule has created 18 new jobs at the plant and significantly increases the supplier’s global annual production of Trilon M. BASF estimates double-digit growth for environmentally friendly chelating agents in the coming years.

Trilon M or methylglycinediacetic acid (MGDA) is said to be a high performance, eco-friendly chelating agent, available in solid and liquid forms. In addition, BASF says the agent does not require risk phase labelling under EU legislation.

“The capacity expansion is BASF’s response to the increasing global demand for modern chelating agents,” commented Dr John Feldmann, BASF executive director.
