BASF looks for a record

Published: 4-Sep-2006

BASF says it has completed the first half of 2006 with record results. Sales rose 20% to nearly €25bn compared to the first half of 2005, while EBIT before special items grew 17% to €3.8bn.

The company says volume demand was strong throughout the half. Sales in the chemicals segment increased 22% on the back of this demand, while the fine chemicals division put in a strong performance thanks to demand for aroma chemicals as well as contract manufacturing and personal care acquisitions.

BASF chairman Jürgen Hambrecht says BASF is optimistic about its full year results. “We expect to post significantly higher sales and higher EBIT. Furthermore, our acquisitions will contribute to sales in the second half, bringing total sales to considerably more than €50bn.”

These acquisitions refer to Engelhard Corporation, Degussa's construction chemicals business and Johnson Polymer and CropDesign.
