Beautyworld 2010, Messe Frankfurt’s premier beauty show which was held in Frankfurt in January, felt the effect of the credit crunch with both visitor and exhibitor numbers falling, according to its latest statistics.
The show was also cut down from four days in length to three days this year, at the request of some exhibitors who were finding the expense of going to the show too much. According to Messe Frankfurt’s data, the show attracted 109 fewer exhibitors in 2010 with 222 exhibitors attending this year, compared with 331 the year before.
Visitor numbers also took a nosedive with 2,188 fewer people attending this year. In 2009, Beautyworld welcomed 11,437 people through its doors while this year this figure had fallen to 9,249.
Dr Michael Peters, member of the board of management for Messe Frankfurt, says however that this drop was to have been expected: “In comparison to last year, it should be remembered that Beautyworld was cut down to three days at the request of most of the exhibitors. The visitor number per day was therefore higher and we received increased levels of customer satisfaction as a result.”
Over half of those attending the show were from Germany but it also attracted visitors from Italy, France, the UK and Switzerland, among others.
