Boots, the UK health and beauty retailer, is launching a walk-in high street service for weight loss jabs.
The British high street chain has launched the service as a trial across 17 of its stores nationwide, offering weight loss treatments such as Mounjaro and Wegovy.
Boots stores based in London, Manchester and Edinburgh are being included in the trial.
Customers will be offered an in-person consultation in a private room with a Pharmacist Independent Prescriber, who has specialist training to prescribe medicines for weight loss.
The consumer’s health and medical history will be assessed to see if they are eligible for treatment, which includes weight, height and BMI checks.
If customers meet eligibility criteria for the service, then the Pharmacist can provide access to treatment, with additional appointments booked in for review.
It is a big move by Boots as these weight loss medications have only been largely available through online prescriptions.
GPs in England are allowed to prescribe Mounjaro on the NHS, but only to severely obese people who also suffer from a range of other health problems.
Cosmetics Business recently reported on the rise of ‘Ozempic face’ – investigating the side effects of rapid weight loss on the skin from the use of GLP-1 medications.
“We know that people have different preferences for how they access health care services – some seeking online support and some wanting in-person conversations with their local practitioner,” said Jamie Kerruish, Chief Healthcare Officer at Boots.
“The launch of our in-store weight loss treatment service, alongside our digital offer delivered through Boots Online Doctor, means we can now deliver convenient care to people both online or in person.
“Our weight loss treatment services are for anyone whose lives are affected by obesity.”
Boots Nottingham Victoria Centre, Boots Cardiff Queen Street, Boots Durham Market Place, Boots Belfast Donegal Place, Boots Edinburgh Princes Street, Boots Newcastle Sidgate and Boots St Albans, St Peters Street, are being included in the trial.
As well as Boots London Liverpool Street Station, Boots Leicester Fosse Park, Boots Brighton North Street, Boots London Piccadilly Circus, Boots Dartford Blue Water and Boots Altrincham Stamford Quarter.
Plus, Boots Chester Le Street, Boots Middlesbrough Nunthorpe, Boots Bath Southgate Centre and Boots Lisburn Sprucefield.
