A market report from Key Note has predicted a bright future for the UK's cosmetic surgery industry, with low unemployment and increasing disposable incomes having led to a widening in the consumer base for such procedures.

The report, entitled Cosmetic Surgery, found that around a third of female respondents in the survey would consider having cosmetic surgery performed.

Despite the predicted expansion the reports notes that the UK market is not in the same league as the US industry and although attitudes commonplace stateside are likely to continue to pervade UK culture, several issues need to be dealt with in terms of company promotion and marketing. The survey found that 49.9% of men and 45.6% of women completely ruled out the possibility of having surgery for purely cosmetic reasons, suggesting many consumers are hardened against cosmetic surgery.

Key Note forecasts that that the total UK cosmetic surgery market will grow by 131.3% between 2007 and 2011, to £1.81bn at retail selling prices.
