Dr Bragi Age Management Marine Enzyme from Zymetech is described as a paradigm shift in skin care. It is based on Penzyme, a marine enzyme patented to Dr Bragi for cosmetic and medicals use, that is said to act differently to any other enzyme.

Dr Jon Bragi Bjarnason, professor of biochemistry at the University of Iceland and founder of Zymetech. Having found the ingredient to have impressive results in wound healing he has now applied these principles to a cosmetic treatment, formulating Penzyme into a water-based product that is fragrance and preservative-free.

The name Penzyme relates to a penetrating action on the skin and this biocatalyst is said to replenish enzymes in the skin and causing an increased flow of blood to the skin with some quite impressive effects. Claims include: rejuvenation, through exfoliation and free radical scavenging; moisturisation; and an anti-inflammatory action, the calming and soothing action treating photo-damage and hyperpigmentation and reducing irritation. Other ingredients include vitamin C and glycerol.

Dr Bragi says he has used Penzymes on skin from less than one year old up to over 100 and claims it reinvigorates skin of all ages. “But if you're using another moisturising product, use this first and leave it for at least five minutes before applying another product to allow the enzyme to work,” advises Dr Bragi.

For the future, a mask is planned for June with a cleanser to follow. But Dr Bragi is also very excited about further medical developments as he says the ingredient has promising potential in both viral and bacterial infections.

The new product retails at £120 and is launching this month in the UK and US via www.drbragi.com
