Dutch market manages a lift from flat stretch
According to the Nederlandse Cosmetica Vereniging (NCV) the Dutch cosmetics market is showing small signs of recovery from 2004, when growth was limited to just 0.4% and managed a modest rise of 1.4% in 2005, reaching a total of €1.2m at manufacturer's prices and €2.3bn in terms of sales prices.
The Dutch industry body reports that themes of pampering, ease of use, efficiency, effectiveness and care still dominate the cosmetics market and prompt consumers to buy because they feel they are treating themselves and this gives them a sense of well-being. Per capita spending in the country was €141 in 2005.
The NCV predicts that new product launches and innovative formulas will continue to be key to growth for the next year.
