ISP Personal Care has announced the formation of an alliance with Cellworks Group, a proteomics-driven therapy design company, which will enable the ingredients supplier to speed up the discovery and development of biofunctional ingredients for skin care applications.
ISP is using Cellworks' computer modelling techniques to develop and demonstrate novel skin care approaches based on ISP’s Vincience line of biofunctional ingredients. Most recently, it used Cellworks’ Virtual Skin platform to model the efficacy of two ingredients under evaluation for effects on skin pigmentation. According to ISP the study was able to assay hundreds of bio-molecules, which allowed the company to predict the effects on different skin types before the need for expensive clinical testing.
It is hoped the study will be the first in a series of collaborations, which will include work on anti-ageing compounds and synergies between biofunctional ingredients.
“The ability of the Cellworks Group’s Virtual Skin platform to perform complex experiments with easy setup and to analyse hundreds of bio-molecules and skin attributes gives us unprecedented insight into the workings of biofunctionals we have under development,” commented Dr Claude Dal Farra, vp research & development, ISP. “This technology has the ability to improve the productivity of our scientists and enable us to get better products to market in a shorter time.”
