Israel's Knesset bans cosmetic testing

Israel has recently passed a bill that bans animal cosmetics testing.
Gideon Sa'ar (Likud) says the ban that the Knesset is proposing will affect between 2,000 and 3,000 animals in the country.
“The Knesset has set an important ideological norm pertaining to the relationship between society and animals,” Sa'ar said.
Currently, the law allows for animal testing with a permit granted by the Council on Animal Experimentation for cosmetic, non-medical experimentation. In 2009, a second bill outlawing the import of animal-tested cosmetics will be in full effect.
