Health care and toiletries giant Johnson & Johnson has announced plans to cut up to 8,000 jobs as part of a $1.3bn pre tax restructure. The company has said that 6-7% of its 118,700 strong global workforce will be affected.
The cuts form part of Johnson & Johnson’s efforts to simplify its business structure in the hope of saving an estimated $800m to $900m next year, and $1.4bn to $1.7bn annually from 2011, and follow the loss of 4,800 jobs in July 2007.
Last year Johnson & Johnson saw its revenue fall 5% in the third quarter due to intensified competition in the prescription drugs market.
