L’Oréal has announced the publication of its fifth annual sustainable development report. The annual audit carried out by the company centres around seven key areas including economic affairs, environment, R&D, supply chain, employee and consumer relations, and community engagement.

Amongst its achievements, L’Oréal counts a 23% reduction in CO2 emissions, a 17% reduction in water consumption and a cut in waste (per finished product) of 26% since 2003. “We believe we need to be an authentic model for sustainability and we intend to set the bar high and work hard to meet the challenge,” comments Francis Quinn, director of sustainable development at L’Oréal.

In addition, the C&T giant says that it has advanced research into animal testing alternatives with its SkinEthic RHE (reconstructed human epidermis) and has distributed more over $25m to programmes and causes such as Women in Science and Look Good…Feel Better.
