Ottawa attacks fragrance wearing in public areas
The citizens of Ottawa, Canada, may be banned from wearing scent in public areas in what is thought to be a first among all capital cities.
City of Ottawa councillors are to debate a proposal from a council citizens’ committee on the environment that pass a by-law stopping people from wearing perfume, scented soaps and deodorants to work.
This would be preceded by a public awareness campaign teaching people on how scents can trigger asthma attacks, followed by voluntary guidelines stopping people wearing scents.
The next step would be an enforced ban in all city buildings, on public transport, sports arenas and community centres. Finally, there would be a full ban bylaw in all places open to the public.
