The Spanish national competition authority (CNC) has launched an investigation into three possible cases of price fixing in the cosmetics industry.
The inquiry is wide-ranging and reportedly covers the following areas and companies: gels (Puig, Sara Lee Espana, Henkel Iberica, Colomer Group Spain and Colgate Palmolive Espana); toothpaste (Henkel Iberica, Unilever Espana, GlaxoSmithKline and Colgate Palmolive Espana); professional hairdressing products (L'Oréal Espana, Wella, Colomer, Eugene Perma Espana, Cosmetica Cosbar (Montibello), Cosmetica Tecnica (Lendan), Henkel Iberica, DSP Haircare Products and the National Perfumery and Cosmetics Association (ANPC). The purpose of the investigation is to confirm the existence if any of anti-competitive price agreements.
The only company to respond so far has been L'Oréal Espana which said its policy was characterised by a "scrupulous respect for legality" across the board and for this reason it awaited the results of the investigation with confidence.
