Shiseido is first C&T company to gain Eco-First certification
Shiseido has become the first company in the cosmetics industry to be certified under the Japanese Ministry of the Environment’s Eco-First programme. Created in April 2008, Eco-First encourages companies to redouble environmental protection activities by having them make a commitment to the minister for the environment concerning their initiatives. The company made the commitment to pursue global warming prevention initiatives and to promote a recycling oriented society to minister of the environment Tetsuo Saito.

In recent years, Shiseido has introduced both eco design and a used glass recycling system as well as implementing a zero emissions policy in all domestic manufacturing facilities and installing a solar power generation system at its New Jersey factory.
In an extension of its CSR policy Shiseido has also announced that it is to open several centres to provide make-up advice to people with serious skin conditions such as birthmarks and scarring. Shiseido Life Quality Beauty Centers will be set up in Shanghai, China and Taipei and Kaohsiung, Taiwan. In addition, Shiseido plans to change the name of its existing Social Beauty Care Center, based in its Tokyo head office. From 1 April it will be called the Shiseido Life Quality Beauty Center.
