Japanese manufacturer Shiseido has announced a new drive to promote some of its cosmetic ingredients for medical care and pharmaceutical applications.
According to a report in Japan Chemical Week, Shiseido’s hyaluronic acid is to be marketed for both medical and pharma use, with the US and EU seen as key markets due to their higher profit margins.
Shiseido aims to boost annual sales of its pharmaceutical-use hyaluronic acid to ¥5bn by 2013 and envisages strong sales for its cosmetic products for medical care. According to the Tokyo-based company the domestic market for medical-care cosmetics is currently worth ¥3-4bn.
