Silab has signed a “sustainable and responsible” public-private partnership with French Guiana through the Guyane Technopôle, an association representing the regional council. The collaboration will focus on searching for new sources of innovative materials for use in cosmetics and aims to encourage local economic development while taking the conservation of biodiversity into account, ensuring total traceability and sustainability.

The programme involves the setting up of a supply and cultivation system with Guyane Technopôle and Qualitrop, a Guianian research laboratory that forms part of the University Antilles-Guyane. A Quality Pole will be established, scheduled for 2010, to which Silab will contribute its scientific know-how.

“Encouraging the emergence of a Quality Pole is our contribution to local economic development in return for the use of Guianian plants,” comments Silab. “Beyond the Silab partnership this Quality Pole will be opened to any company interested in using the natural resources of French Guiana in cosmetics, pharmacy, nutrition etc and it will have the task of regulating relations between the stakeholders in an equitable and responsible manner.”
