A peer-to-peer marketplace is a network where people bypass the middleman and conduct business transactions with each other directly. EBay is one of the earlier examples where traditional retail overheads were drastically reduced, and buyers and sellers were connected. In recent years, companies such as Airbnb, Etsy and Uber have leveraged the peer-to-peer business model by creating opportunities for everyone to become a seller and a buyer.
