Bris Rocher, 31, is to take over leadership of the Yves Rocher cosmetics group following the death of his grandfather and company founder Yves Rocher, 79, in Paris on 26 December.

The group issued a statement saying that against a difficult economic background it would retain its status as an independent family-owned company, financially stable and based on both its original traditions and strong values. The statement added that the succession at the head of the group had been carefully planned by Yves Rocher for over four years.

Yves Rocher's eldest son, Didier, died in 1994 and it is understood that Bris Rocher was chosen as the family member to succeed to the group presidency when he was working as vice president in 2007.

Yves Rocher was created in 1959 in Britanny and today employs some 15,000 people, 7000 of them in France. The French president Nicolas Sarkozy, paying tribute to M Rocher, said that he was a great French industrialist, inventor of plant-based cosmetics and a pioneer in direct-mail selling.
